Review: Ascot Racecourse Family Day

On 2 April, we popped down to Ascot’s Family Day – Jack’s first day at the races (and mine, also). He adores animals, and we often take long country walks in search of the occasional lone horse or sheep, so the prospect of seeing multiple horses running around… I knew he’d love it.

This picture sums up our day quite well…

Ascot Racecourse Family Day

Every time Jack saw a horse, sheep, or anything with four legs, actually, he absolutely squealed with delight, and when the racing horses charged past he lost it completely.

Aside from the racing (which we won’t talk about – the odds were not kind to us) there was plenty of entertainment for the little ones. A highlight was the ‘lamb national’ – in which a group of lambs raced round a track (complete with jumps) with teddies attached to their backs. I don’t recall who won (it might have been Ed Shear-an) but it was hugely entertaining for kids and big kids alike.

The Gruffalo and Peter Rabbit made appearances throughout the day but somehow we managed to miss them – pretty gutted. For Jack of course. It’s not me that has an unhealthy Gruffalo obsession… At all.
